Riverview Respite is a two person respite service for people over the age of 18 who experience mental ill health.
Located alongside RFT’s residential program in Glenorchy, Riverview Respite is a separate two-bedroom unit with an open plan living area featuring views overlooking the local bush and the Derwent River, as well as a pleasant outdoor garden area for further relaxation.
The unit is fully equipped and serviced. All evening meals are provided, as well as self-serve breakfasts and lunches.
Riverview Respite is fully staffed from 7am to 10pm with emergency out of hours support provided by RFT staff via the on-site telephone.
All linen is provided, and rooms are fully serviced between bookings.
A tasty and nutritional evening meal (as selected at time of referral) is provided daily.
Self-serve breakfasts and lunches are also provided, along with snacks and other foods.
Suitable recreational and relaxation activities in negotiation with guest.
Participation in site outings if desired.
A safe, clean and friendly environment for guests to relax and enjoy!
How do I apply?
Consumers considering a stay at Riverview respite must:
- Be referred by their Adult Mental Health Services case manager or an appropriate health care professional (e.g. doctor/psychiatrist)
- Be physically able to manage daily self-care
- Be stable in both mental and physical health
- Be medication compliant and able to manage their medication (assistance with medication can be provided but we cannot manage your medication)
- Have a home address to return to
Guests must also be willing to agree to the site Responsibility Requirements, including that Riverview Respite is an alcohol and recreational drug-free facility.
Arrival & Departure
The maximum stay is three nights. Guests should arrive after 2:30pm and depart before 12 noon.

Bookings can only be made by referred consumers.

Consumers will be assessed for suitability to the service at this point. Depending on the outcome of this assessment, they may be offered alternative respite options.
Should consumers require clinical support, this will be provided by their Case Manager or nominated health care professional.
In an emergency the Crisis Assessment Team or emergency services may be called.
