TasRec
TasRec creates and provides links to a diverse range of community-based recreational and social activities, events, and opportunities for skill building and creative expression, all with a focus on enjoyment and wellbeing. The TasRec philosophy is all about inclusion, building connections, increasing confidence and self-esteem, and having fun!
We run four x 11 week programs throughout the year with some activities continuing all year round while others change with the seasons, providing a broad range of ongoing favourites and fresh opportunities throughout the year. All our programs and activities are open to anyone with a lived experience of mental ill-health.

Social Group / Day Trip
North West
A chance to play board games, pool, bingo, play music, sing karaoke and have a coffee and a catch up! Every second week enjoy a day out at one of the many parks, historical sites or tourist attractions around Ulverstone and its surrounds.
Just Move
North West
Movement is key to mental and physical health. Join in on this ability sensitive, circuit based exercise program with professional instructors guiding your increase in ability!
Cooking
North West, North and South
Tantalise your taste buds affordably! Includes basic cooking skills, planning meals, shopping, snacks and participant led dishes.
Open Arts
North and South
Find new ways to express yourself, discover different ways to create or further develop your current creative skills. Includes painting, drawing, pottery.
Arts and Craft
North
Learn practical and creative skills you can decorate your home or yourself with. Includes sewing, beading, jewellery making, ceramics.
Social Group / Day Trip

Creative Arts

Explore your creativity in more sculptural ways. Includes mosaics, ceramics and papier-maché!
TasTracks
South
Walks in and around Hobart with transport from Hobart or meeting at the walk location. A list of location starting points will be provided once participants have booked in.
Social Group

Gardening Group – On Winter Break
South
– We’ll be back in the garden in Spring – Help create a beautiful garden space for yourself and others to share or grow your own herbs and vegetables.
Yoga
South
Classes with instructor Helen Cushing who specialises in trauma informed Yoga and working with participants with PTSD.
Just Move
South
Circuit based exercise program led by an exercise physiologist or personal trainer for all abilities levels.
Just Move – Women Only
South
Circuit based exercise program for women run by women. Movement is key to mental and physical health. Join in on this ability sensitive, circuit based exercise program with professional instructors guiding your increase in ability!
Hanging With Horses
South
Horses are keen observers are vigilant and sensitive to movement and emotion. They often mirror a person’s behaviour or emotions, conveying understanding and connection that allows a person to feel safe. This also allows a person to maintain a sense of self-awareness, using the horse’s behaviour and interactions for feedback and opportunities to check in and process what is happening in the moment. Interactions with the horses include feeding, brushing, safety briefings and options to move onto riding at a later stage. Limited numbers.
Book Online
Just Move Program
Just Move is an exercise program for participants with lived experience of mental ill-health and now runs as part of the TasRec program. It is a structured exercise program run by Exercise Physiologists and Personal Trainers in a private gym facility to allow for maximum privacy and safety of all participants.
The sessions run for one hour and consist of circuit-based movements that will be tailored to suit all ability levels. Support workers or family members are encouraged to attend the sessions with the participants.

Anyone with a diagnosed mental health condition may join one of the Just Move groups. Further referral information can be found below. We’ll just need to get some details, including your medical information before you start.
